Spring Break Recap

IU lacrosse has had a busy year so far. It’s hard to believe we are already halfway through the season. From getting over 200,000 combined views on our harlem shake video, to a triple overtime wake up call, to our most recent 3 game weekend, we have had our hands full. For new guys like me, it has been great to get off to a hot start. But in looking at the older guys on the team you can tell it means a lot more than that. Our upperclassmen have been through some rough seasons before this going 2-12 and 5-6. So to start 6-1 is something special. That’s not to say we are satisfied. We have a lot more work to do in our last 5 games. 3 of those will be huge GRLC matchups.

We had a great weekend before spring break. Coach posted a good amount of information about the games so I will keep it brief. Three full games in three days is not easy. But we pulled through to go 3-0 on the weekend. We were missing some players and therefore depth hurt us as we progressed through the games. Friday was a great team win 14-3 over Miami. Interestingly enough, Miami went on to beat both Iowa and Mankato who we beat 11-5 and 9-8 respectively. We faced a halftime deficit of 4-2 to Mankato on Sunday but we brought it back with a strong second half. One thing our team has shown consistently this spring is resiliency. As much as we would like to jump out to a big lead every game, it’s good to know we can come back from a deficit.

Another 3 game weekend on the schedule starts tomorrow. We’ll be traveling to Illinois during Little 500 qualifications to face Central Michigan, St. Cloud State, and GRLC opponent Illinois State. It will be another big step in our season and a chance to prove that we are a threat in the conference.

The boys went all sorts of different places for spring break. Here are some pictures:

Chris Lanciotti stayed home for SB. Got some good shooting in.

Kurt Chessman and several others went to Fort Lauderdale.

Sophomore goalie Ward Weber went north for some skiing.

We had our first outdoor practice of the spring yesterday. It was not warm. But it’s good to have the room of a full field again for practice.

March Madness starts today. I have IU winning it all because I can’t root against my team. It is going to be a wild tournament.

Anyone in the Naperville area come out to Nike Park for our three games this weekend. What do you think of our uniforms? Did you see our new decals? We’ve gotten mixed reviews on them so far. I’m a fan of the Indiana state flag. It’s something no one else has done.

Until next time!
