Lux-Lax ATL

Didn’t know lacrosse existed in Georgia? Neither did we, until now.

At the beginning of June, I made the move out to Atlanta to intern for the summer at an ad agency. Account Management. Sup. As I embark on my new journey pursuing a career, I find I have the itch more than ever to play as much lacrosse as possible.

Outside of Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia having MCLA teams, one wouldn’t consider lacrosse to exist in Georgia, let alone have a very developed lacrosse community.

One day, a Tweeter profile @LuxLax started following LaxRoads. I checked them out and it just so happens they are based in ATL. A few tweets later we were headed out to beautiful Riverwood High School to rip a tid of twine. Amidst our shooting sesh, I was filled in on the K-12 development and travel teams, men’s leagues, club teams, and private lessons that can be found throughout Atlanta.

Meet Shaun and Kevin Lux, the men behind the madness. They filled us in about Lux Lax and the lacrosse scene in and around Atlanta. Enjoy.

Give us a little background about you both.
Kevin and I both relocated to Atlanta recently from Rochester, NY. I played Lacrosse at Mercyhurst College and also played Senior Box Lacrosse for the Rochester Greywolves. The last 4 years I have been the assistant coach at St. John Fisher College until I relocated to Atlanta. Kevin just recently graduated from St. John Fisher College and then relocated not long after he graduated. I have been here about 9 months and Kevin about a year and a half.

What brought you to Atlanta?
Family, Lacrosse and opportunity.

What is Lux Lax?
Lux Lax is the combined coaching from Shaun and Kevin Lux. Lux Lax is geared towards private lacrosse instruction. This includes private lessons, team instruction, camps and clinics.

What is the lacrosse scene like in Georgia? Any surprises?
BOOMING! The main surprise to me was how fast the sport is expanding, and how big the youth scene is here.

What are the current teams you coach/are involved with?
We are field directors with Atlanta Youth Lacrosse (AYLLAX.COM). We coach a variety of teams and age groups within the League. This summer we are working with the Atlanta Youth Elite travel team the Coyotes. We are coaching the U15 team, which just recently won the Southeast Region. We are now heading to the U15 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS presented by CHAMPION at ESPN Wide World of Sports near Orlando, FL on 7/21.

How should someone interested in lacrosse in the Atlanta area get involved?
If you are interested in getting involved in coaching, reach out to Atlanta Youth Lacrosse. We are always looking for people to volunteer as a coach of one of our many teams. You can sign up to volunteer, register a player or just read up on the Atlanta Lacrosse scene at AYLLAX.COM or LUX-LAX.COM.

A big thanks to the Lux boys for sitting down with us. I will be spending plenty more time with them this summer. Make sure to follow them on twitter @LuxLax and head to for more info about their services.

Very happy that released today.

Can you believe there was one 7th-8th grade boys’ team in Atlanta back in 1998? There were two the next year. You’re looking at exponential growth in ATL. I coached the only 7th-8th grade team in Alabama those two years. Crazy, isn’t it?

It’s insane, these Georgians are built for SEC football. 6 foot 200 pound 8th grade attackmen.
