Notes from Friday’s overtime loss.
The Hoosiers battled back from a 6-2 1st quarter deficit to force overtime before allowing the game winning goal in transition in the third overtime.
IU committed 8 penalties, including one in the second overtime period. IU failed to convert on a man up chance in the third overtime.
Back up goalie Ward Weber was called upon twice while starting goalie Peter Moore served two penalties. Weber allowed only one goal in those two appearances. The coaching staff was very impressed with his effort coming in cold off the bench. Moore registered 15 saves and allowed the game to remain close while the offense and defense found their footing.
Junior attackman Keegan McQuillan scored 2 goals and added 4 assists.
Sophomore middie Alex Eaton tallied 4 goals. He has scored three goals or more in every game.
Eaton’s high school teammates (Carmel, Indiana), freshmen Brent Balek and Nate Vickery, scored twice and once respectively. Like Eaton, Balek has scored in every game this season.
While this was a disappointing loss, the team learned valuable lessons about being ready from the first whistle and finishing their opportunities. Fortunately, the loss comes against an OOC opponent. The coaching staff would be far more concerned by Friday’s result if we didn’t comeback to force overtime and instead rolled over for Ohio. The team showed some resiliency and grit in the face of adversity for the first time this season.
