Editor’s note: written by sophomore Keegan McQuillan.
Let me set the scene for you. Two MCLA teams, two brothers, and a divided family. Friday marks our first game of the season and we will be playing Illinois State University. Not only is it our season opener but it is a divisional matchup and it is very significant to our playoff chances.
Let me get a little more personal now. If you read my player bio, you would already know that I am a sophomore attackmen here at IU. Now my brother, Sean McQuillan, is a senior attackmen at Illinois State University. Last year we unfortunately lost 11-7 at Illinois State playing on a field with similar conditions to the dust bowl (see lead in photo). I’m not blaming the field for the loss because they beat us fair and square but I have had to use every excuse in the book to rebuttle the continous chirping from my brother about that loss. It doesn’t make it better that all of my brothers friends attend Illinois State so they pour it on.
Ever since the day I got my acceptance letter into Indiana University I knew that I would eventually be playing my brother. Last year was the first legitament time I had ever competittively played against my brother and this year it will be the last. I will not have an 0-2 record to him.
Not only does my brother play at Illinois State but one of my best friends and teammates from high school, Mark Kawalek, is also on their squad. We call him “Heat”, can you figure out why.
Faceoff at 7:00pm at Zionsville High School this Friday
