Indiana hopes to improve to 2-0 with tomorrow’s non-conference game against Toledo. The game will be played at Zionsville High School in Zionsville, Indiana as part of the Indy Shootout.
Toledo’s poles play a physical brand of defense which should present a nice challenge prior to our spring break trip to Florida to play Florida State and Virginia Tech. We must do a better job finishing in settled 6v6 scenarios if we want to beat higher caliber opponents.
Our settled 6v6 defense allowed only 1 goal on Friday and it was late in the fourth quarter with the starters out. It will be imperative for us to continue to play shutdown defense until the offense clicks.
Friday was an emotional game for us as we were seeking a bit of revenge from last year’s defeat to ISU. Tomorrow, we’ll face a Toledo team with their back’s against the wall.
Toledo fell to Illinois State 9-4 on Saturday while Indiana defeated Illinois State 7-4 on Friday.
With his three goal performance against ISU, Matt Anderson now has 89 career goals.
Secondary scoring was the name of the game Friday with seniors Mike Shagi and Zach Trefzger chipping in one and two goals respectively. The pair combined for three goals total in 2011. Freshmen Chris Lanciotti scored his first goal of his career man up. He later added an assist.
Toledo was without leading scoring Drew Stansley for the ISU game. No word on whether he will be available for Sunday’s game.
Dress warmly. Temperature at face off will be 34 degrees.
Zionsville has been an excellent host and we hope to return in 2013.
Thank you to the parents for our post game meal Friday.
